Airport Pick Up
What To Expect
Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) is located in Alajuela, Costa Rica, 30 minutes away from Veritas University.
After exiting the plane you will be directed to immigration, where you will have to present your passport, proof of departure (flight reservation for your return home) and your homestay address. After immigration, head to baggage claim, and once you have all your belongings you will go through customs. This airport has one exit only, which makes finding the CIS Staff easier. Costa Rica Site Director Lisa will be there to pick you up and take you to your homestay. Please look for signs that say your name and/or CIS Abroad.
Flight Delays or Cancellations
In case of a flight delay or cancellation please let your Site Director know as soon as possible, and provide your new arrival information (Airline, Flight number, date and time). Arrangements will be made to ensure your pick up and safe arrival in your home stay.
Lost Baggage
If your bags decide to take a later flight, don’t panic. If the airline loses your luggage you must file a report with the airline while you are still in the baggage area. It is much more difficult to file this report once you’ve left the baggage claim area. The information you will need to provide on that form include the following:
- NAME (you can give your name)
- PHONE # (give the site director's phone number)
- ADDRESS (give the address of your homestay)
The airline baggage claim service will call the phone number provided once your bag has arrived and will deliver it to your homestay.
How To Connect to WI-FI In The Airport
There is free Wi-Fi provided at Juan Santamaria Airport. Once you connect please message your Site Director to let her know you have arrived and to get further instructions.
Early Arrivals
If you arrive before your program start date, you are responsible for yourself until the day the program begins. This includes your transportation, housing, meals and safety. Don't worry, many students choose this option and exploring the city for a day or two on your own can be a fun way to start your program and beat the jet lag before things start! If you decide to arrive early make sure you connect with your site director Lisa to organize your arrival at your homestay.
Late Arrivals
If you will be arriving after the program start date make sure you inform CIS staff. You will be responsible for your own transportation to your homestay, and keep in mind you will miss the welcome activities planned by the on-site staff.
How To Get To The City From The Airport
Ubers are not allowed to pick up patrons inside the airport, but there are airport taxis available once you have gone past customs. Make sure you have your homestay address with you in order to avoid any issues.
